Diabetes Signs and Symptoms
There are many diabetes signs and symptoms which should be look for. The important thing to keep in mind is many people think you must be experiencing all of the symptoms to be diabetic – this simply isn't true, and this incorrect assumption can often lead to the delay in diagnosis, or outright failure to diagnose altogether. The longer potential diabetes signs and symptoms are ignored or missed, the more severe the damage to an individual's body can become. For instance, high cholesterol, high blood pressure and clogging of the arteries are all effects of untreated diabetes.
Type 1 Diabetes symptoms can often come along fast and be very serious, to the point of becoming unconscious or dying. This form of diabetes usually comes on during childhood to early adulthood. Type 2 Diabetes symptoms are often slower to develop, and often harder to spot because they are less severe. Another reason why Type 2 Diabetes symptoms aren't picked up on is because Type 2 Diabetes is largely a disorder adults develop, and fatigue been one of the biggest indicators is often put down to simply getting older.
Gestational diabetes symptoms are also very hard to spot as many symptoms are typical of an average pregnancy such as fatigue and increased appetite and thirst.
Overall, general diabetes symptoms can be any number or any degree of the following:
- Fatigue
- Increased appetite and thirst
- Weight increase (Usually associated with Type 2 Diabetes)
- Weight loss (Usually associated with Type 1 Diabetes)
- Eye problems such as blurred vision
- Irritability, becoming easily agitated and even restless
- Muscular cramp
The best thing you can do is if in doubt, take yourself to your doctor to raise your concerns, you never know, you may well have diabetes. |
