Symptoms of Diabetes
Diabetes is a potentially life-threatening disorder due to a lack of insulin production in the pancreas, or the body's refusal to allow insulin to carry out its job of supplying glucose (blood sugar) throughout the body, also known as insulin resistance.
Glucose is used by the body as energy, and is the sole energy source relied upon by the brain and nervous system. Other organs such as muscles and the liver also utilise glucose. If glucose isn't able to be used by the body due to a lack of insulin or insulin resistance, the result is high levels of glucose build up inside the body leading to Hyperglycaemia – which is usually the first real symptoms of diabetes.
When somebody becomes Hyperglycaemic, their glucose levels are far higher than they should be. When you're blood sugar levels increase you may start to experience such symptoms as fatigue, hazy vision, an increase in hunger and thirst, and frequent urinating.
You must also be fully aware the symptoms of diabetes aren't always strong or fully apparent. Many people in fact live with mild diabetes symptoms completely unaware of their condition. If you definitely feel slightly off colour, or find yourself feeling even mild symptoms resembling the aforementioned there is a change you may be experiencing the symptoms of diabetes to some degree.
As diabetes is such a serious health issue, you shouldn't take a chance and should always consult your G.P. immediately should you feel any of the symptoms of diabetes, no matter how sceptical you are. |
