Type 2 Diabetes Symptoms

There are three main kinds of diabetes: Gestational Diabetes, Type 1 Diabetes and Type 2 Diabetes.

Type 2 Diabetes is the form of diabetes which is also known as ‘adult diabetes', as it typically – but not always – develops during adulthood. Type 2 Diabetes is usually found among adults, particularly those who haven't been living a very healthy lifestyle such as the obese, or in the ailing such as elderly and those in poor health.

Type 2 Diabetes is where the pancreas doesn't produce enough insulin to cope with the levels of glucose in the blood, or the body doesn't use the insulin produced effectively enough. This can be for two reasons. The first is a lack of exercise simply means the glucose isn't going anywhere, it isn't been used for energy and burned off. Secondly, a condition known as ‘Insulin Resistance' can occur where the Insulin in the body finds it hard or near impossible to transport the glucose into the cells in the first place.

The result is the bloodstream becomes infused with glucose which isn't being used or simply cannot be used.

The symptoms of Type 2 Diabetes can be some or all of the following:

  • Visual impairment such as blurry vision
  • Increase in appetite
  • Increase in thirst
  • Increase in urination
  • Erectile Dysfunction
  • Tiredness and fatigue
  • Increased susceptibility to illnesses and infections and slow healing wounds

The end result for those with Type 2 Diabetes if gone untreated can be permanent loss of sight, limb amputation, kidney failure or heart disease or failure.

If you exhibit some of the above symptoms, consult your G.P. as soon as possible and asked to be tested for diabetes.
